Michael Schneider answered on 11 Nov 2015:

I study “heart attacks” (death of heart muscle from obstructed blood flow to the heart) from the perspective of keeping the muscle cells alive or creating new muscle from stem cells. I also study “heart failure” (long-term deterioration of the heart as a biomechanics pump), also from the perspective of muscle cell death, which in this case occurs in small numbers of cells at any time, but with cumulative irreversible damage.
