      Hi Science Maniac!

Thanks for your question! Strictly the word infarct is used when a piece of tissue, like a part of an organ dies because of the lack of blood in the area. A myocardial infarction happens when a portion of the heart dies because one of the vessels that makes sure that the muscle gets blood is obstructed. Because the heart muscle is very sensitive to the low oxygen it doesn’t survive for long. You can also have an infarct in other places of the body, like the brain.
      Hope that answers your question!
