      Hi,
I will try my best to answer your question. I hope you are referring to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), apologies if you are not.

It is very important that we do immediately after a heart attack to keep blood pumping through the body, as blood carries oxygen to our vital organs. Every organ in our body will need a constant supply of oxygen for it to function healthily. The brain is especially sensitive to lost of oxygen and can only survive for around 4 mins, after this the brain will begin to die. Lost of oxygen supply to the brain for approximately 10 mins will cause death of the person. If CPR starts after 4 mins and before 10 mins, the patient will suffer some loss of bodily function. If CPR starts immediately after a heart attack and continues until the arrival of medical support, the chances of rescuing the patient is greatly increased. CPR can sometimes continue for upto 40-50 mins for a person to be declared dead by a doctor.

I hope I have answered your question. If you have any other query please send it to me.

      Loan
