The title of my project is called ‘The role of PMCA1 in atherosclerosis.’ PMCA1 is a calcium pump which pumps calcium out of many cells in our body. Abnormal PMCA1 function has been shown to be linked to many human diseases including high blood pressure, obesity and heart attacks.
I believe that my work is very important and that one day it will help doctors to treat patients who are suffering from such diseases.
Aside from being a scientist, I am also a wife and a mum. My daughter is 12 years old and knows all the right buttons to press to utterly wind me up. I love chocolate, puddings and all things sweet. When I have time, I enjoy cooking for my family.

Some days I could be completely absorbed in my reading, on other days, I could be running around trying to set up for my experiments. Sometimes my experiments can run over a period of three days and sometimes only thirty minutes. My schedule can be very flexible and I plan my time as I see best but on occasions, when I am working in a team for an experiment or when an experiment needs my attention on a specific date/time, I will need to be at work even if I am not particularly well.
