      Dear 632hrtd49
This is a clever question to ask, wished i had thought of it when i was your age. The reason the heart is in the chest is because it is such an important organ that it need to be protected from accidental damage by the rib cage; the same reason why all our vital organs or kept protected in our chest. The other reason for the heart being inside the chest is to keep the heart within close distance to all our other vital organs so that blood does not have to travel far to reach it. If the heart is located in the leg, blood would have to travel all the way up the leg, up the body before it reaches our brain. This would not be ideal because the brain the organ that has the highest demand for blood and needs it in the quickest time.

I hope you have found my answer helpful.
