      Hi @billben,
Thank you for your interesting question. I’m not an expert in the brain but, I will try and answer your question as best I can.
Your question is very complex just like our brain which is a spectacular organ. With a little bit of research I found that scientists know that thinking is essentially an internalised movement within our brains where we make sense of, interpret, model the world around us and make predictions for the future. Biologically, the process of thinking is difficult to measure but it occurs when a nerve cell (or neuron which is an excitable cell in the nervous system) is processed and transmits information by electrochemical signalling in our brains and throughout our bodies. Psychologically, the process of thinking is intellectual exertion which trys to find the answer to a questions or a solution to a practical problem. Thinking is very important for humans and the process can depend on your own view of the world.
I hope that answers your question. Thanks, Gemma
