      Hi Bob,

      Thanks for your question! I think you mean a pacemaker, am I right?? A pacemaker makes sure the heart beats regularly. We have our own pacemaker that is built in our hearts. It tells the heart how fast or slow it needs to contract depending on what we need, like if we are relaxed it will beat slower and when we are nervous it will beat faster. If this system doesn’t work the heart will start beating when it feels like it and that’s how people get arrythmias. In this case people need to have a machine attached to their hearts to tell the hearts when to beat.
